After a demanding event or run, your body needs targeted care to aid in recovery, reduce muscle soreness, and prevent injury. Our post-event remedial massage focuses on:
Using a combination of deep tissue techniques, myofascial release, and soft tissue manipulation, our post-event massage helps you recover more efficiently, so you can get back to training or daily activities feeling refreshed and pain-free.
Compex therapy is an advanced form of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) that aids in recovery, strength training, and rehabilitation. This innovative treatment helps improve muscle activation, reduce pain, and accelerate recovery from injuries. Whether used for rehabilitation or performance enhancement, Compex therapy is a valuable tool in our treatment arsenal.
Our sports and remedial therapy treatments are designed to address muscular imbalances, relieve pain, and improve functional movement. Through targeted soft tissue techniques, we work to enhance flexibility, reduce tension, and promote optimal musculoskeletal health.
Recovering from an injury requires a structured and informed approach. Our comprehensive post-injury examination and assessment service helps identify the root cause of pain, mobility restrictions, and functional limitations. Through detailed assessment techniques, including range of motion testing, muscular strength evaluation, and postural analysis, we develop a personalized treatment plan to support your recovery and prevent future issues.
Our assessment process includes:
If you're recovering from an event, dealing with muscular discomfort, or looking to optimise your post-run recovery, we’re here to help. Get in touch today to schedule an appointment and take the first step toward better health and mobility.
Runner’s Knee is a common overuse injury caused by muscle imbalances, improper running form, and excessive stress on the knee joint. It often results in pain around or behind the kneecap, especially during running, squatting, or stair climbing. Prevention focuses on strengthening key muscles, ensuring proper footwear, and improving running mechanics. Treatment includes sports massage to reduce tension, taping for support, and stretching to improve flexibility and alleviate discomfort.
Plantar Fasciitis is a common foot condition that causes pain in the heel and arch, often worse in the morning or after long periods of standing or running. It is typically caused by overuse, tight calf muscles, and inadequate arch support, leading to inflammation of the plantar fascia. Prevention focuses on foot strengthening exercises, improved mobility, and the benefits of reflexology to enhance circulation and reduce tension. Treatment includes soft tissue therapy, targeted reflexology, stretching, and the use of orthotics to provide proper support and relieve strain.
Shin splints refer to pain along the inner shin, often caused by repetitive stress from running, especially on hard surfaces or after a sudden increase in mileage. Weakness in the tibialis anterior muscle and improper footwear can also contribute to the condition. Preventing shin splints involves gradually increasing training intensity, strengthening lower leg muscles, and wearing supportive footwear. Treatment includes applying ice to reduce inflammation, sports massage to relieve muscle tension, and Compex therapy to promote circulation and aid recovery .
Achilles Tendonitis is an overuse injury that causes pain and stiffness in the Achilles tendon, often aggravated by excessive hill running, poor biomechanics, or sudden increases in training intensity. It develops due to repetitive strain, leading to inflammation and microtears in the tendon. Prevention focuses on eccentric strengthening exercises, proper warm-up and cool-down routines, and addressing any biomechanical issues. Treatment includes soft tissue therapy to reduce tension, compression to manage inflammation, and specific rehabilitation exercises to promote tendon healing and restore strength.
IT Band Syndrome (ITBS) is a common overuse injury that causes pain in the outer knee, often due to weak glutes, poor hip stability, and excessive downhill running. It occurs when the iliotibial (IT) band becomes tight and irritated, leading to friction against the knee joint. Prevention focuses on strengthening the glutes and hips, incorporating foam rolling to release tension, and maintaining proper running mechanics. Treatment includes myofascial release to reduce tightness, sports massage to relieve muscle tension, and corrective exercises to improve stability and prevent recurrence.
Strains and sprains are common soft tissue injuries but affect different structures. Strains involve overstretching or tearing of muscles or tendons, often caused by overuse or sudden movements. Sprains occur when ligaments are stretched or torn due to excessive joint movement, such as twisting an ankle.
Prevention includes proper warm-ups, strength training, wearing supportive footwear, and gradually increasing activity levels. Treatment typically involves the RICE method (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation), sports massage, rehabilitation exercises, and in some cases, Compex therapy for pain relief and recovery. Proper management ensures faster healing and reduces the risk of reinjury.

At R J Parker Sports & Remedial Therapy, we offer Dry Needling Acupuncture, a technique that involves inserting fine, sterile needles into specific trigger points within muscles and connective tissues. Unlike traditional acupuncture, which is based on meridian theory, dry needling focuses on relieving muscular tension, reducing pain, and improving mobility. It's effective for various conditions, including muscle pain, chronic pain syndromes, sports injuries, and tension headaches. During a session, the therapist conducts a thorough assessment to identify the source of discomfort and then applies the needles to stimulate a twitch response in the muscle, promoting relaxation and healing. Patients may experience immediate or gradual relief following treatment. In the UK, dry needling is performed by qualified practitioners who have undergone accredited training to ensure safe and effective treatment.
As part of a Sports Therapy Treatment at R J Parker Sports & Remedial Therapy, we incorporate advanced electrotherapy techniques to aid pain relief, improve circulation, and accelerate healing. These include:
🔹 NMES (Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation) – Stimulates muscle contractions to enhance strength, recovery, and rehabilitation.
🔹 TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) – Helps manage pain by blocking pain signals and stimulating endorphin release.
🔹 Interferential Therapy – Uses low-frequency electrical currents to reduce pain, inflammation, and muscle spasms.
🔹 Ultrasound Therapy – Promotes tissue healing through deep heat and micro-massage effects.
🔹 Compex Therapy – Enhances recovery, muscle activation, and rehabilitation through targeted electrical muscle stimulation.
These therapies provide a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to injury management, rehabilitation, and performance enhancement, ensuring optimal recovery for every client.
At R J Parker Sports & Remedial Therapy, we offer Kinesiology Taping and Zinc Oxide Strapping as part of our injury management and rehabilitation services. While both provide support, they serve distinct purposes based on the type of injury and activity level.
