What is Kinesiology Tape?
Kinesiology tape is a therapeutic, elastic tape developed to support and stabilize muscles and joints without restricting movement. Created by Dr. Kenzo Kase, a Japanese chiropractor and acupuncturist in the 1970s, the tape is made from a stretchy, skin-friendly fabric that mimics the skin’s natural elasticity, allowing it to move with the body.
Kinesiology tape functions by gently lifting the skin, which:
Kinesiology tape can help to:-
Yes, it’s fine to shower, bathe, and swim while wearing kinesiology tape. However, exposure to water may reduce the tape’s adhesion, so you may need to replace it more frequently.
If You Experience a Reaction (itching, redness, or swelling):
1. Remove the tape immediately.
2. Wash the area with mild soap and water.
3. Contact your therapist or healthcare provider if symptoms persist.
Remove the tape in the direction of your hair growth to minimize discomfort.- Two methods to remove kinesiology tape:
Rolling the tape off: Use the base of your hand to roll the tape gently off the skin. Pulling the skin away from the tape: Hold the tape steady with one hand and gently pull the skin away from the tape with your fingers.
Additional Tips for Easier Removal:
To ensure kinesiology tape works effectively and comfortably, follow these tips:
Clean and dry the skin before applying the tape for optimal adhesion.
Consider shaving any hair in the application area to improve adhesion and make removal easier.
Round off the edges of the tape to prevent it from catching, helping it to stay on longer.
Gently rub the top of the tape after applying it; this warms up the adhesive and helps it stick better.
Check your skin regularly for signs of allergic reaction to the adhesive, such as redness or itching under the tape.
Do not overstretch the tape, as this can lead to skin irritation.
Do not wear the tape for more than five days without removing it to check the condition of your skin.
Avoid using kinesiology tape:
